IB DP Global Politics Teacher

We are seeking a qualified, motivated, and internationally minded IB Diploma Programme Global Politics Teacher.

The successful candidate will support students in critically exploring issues related to power, sovereignty, human rights, development, peace, and conflict. The teacher will develop students’ research, analytical, argumentation, and academic writing skills in accordance with the IB DP Global Politics curriculum and assessment requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the IB Diploma Programme framework and IB DP Global Politics subject requirements

• Create an inquiry-based learning environment centred on discussion, research, and real-world political issues

• Teach concepts related to power, sovereignty, legitimacy, interdependence, and human rights

• Explore political issues at local, national, and global levels from multiple perspectives

• Develop students’ critical-thinking, research, debate, argumentation, and academic writing skills

• Integrate current political developments, real-world case studies, primary sources, and academic materials into teaching and learning

• Prepare students for the internal and external assessment components of IB DP Global Politics

• Guide students through the planning, research, implementation, and written reporting stages of the Engagement Project

• Support Higher Level students with the HL Extension and oral presentations

• Assess and monitor student progress in accordance with IB assessment objectives and criteria

• Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback

• Collaborate with teachers across subject areas to support interdisciplinary learning and differentiated instruction

• Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment in which students can respectfully discuss diverse political and cultural perspectives

• Maintain clear and effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

• Contribute to the academic, pastoral, and extracurricular life of the school

Requirements

The successful candidate should have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field

• Recognised teaching qualification, such as PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent

• Experience teaching Politics, Global Politics, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related subject

• Strong knowledge of contemporary international relations and global political processes

• Understanding of inquiry-based and student-centred teaching approaches

• Experience developing students’ critical-thinking, academic research, and argumentative writing skills

• Ability to facilitate balanced, impartial, and multi-perspective discussions of political issues

• Excellent communication, presentation, and classroom management skills

• Ability to differentiate instruction according to students’ learning needs

• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international educational environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Official IB DP Global Politics training

• Experience teaching within the IB Diploma Programme

• Knowledge of IB DP Global Politics internal and external assessment requirements

• Experience supervising the Engagement Project

• Experience supporting the Higher Level Extension and oral presentations

• Previous experience as an IB Examiner

• Experience supervising the Extended Essay

• Experience teaching or supporting Theory of Knowledge

• Experience organising debates, Model United Nations, or other relevant extracurricular activities

• Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Education, or a related field
